Low Heat Cement

  • Hydration of cement is an exothermic reaction and heat of hydration forms cracks in large body of concrete.Therefore, to produce cement which produces low heat or the same heat at a slower rate, Low heat Cement was developed in U.S.A in 1930 for mass concreting works.
  • A low heat evaluation is achieved by reducing the contents of C3S and C3A .The compounds which evolve maximum heat of hydration and increasing C2S.A reduction of temperature retards the chemical suction of hardening and so further restricts the rate of of evaluation of heat.
  • This feature of low-heat cement results in slow rate of gain of strength is same that of OPC.
